Grüezi! Bonjour! Bongiorno!

The Swiss-American Society of Pittsburgh was founded in 1966 to fill the need for an organization with which all Swiss-Americans and other persons interested in the aims of the Society can affiliate to achieve a closer social and cultural contact among Swiss and descendants of Swiss and to cultivate and strengthen the existing bonds of friendship between the Swiss and the American people.

The Swiss-American Society was instrumental in fundraising and working with the University of Pittsburgh and the Swiss Nationality Room Committee to establish the Swiss Room as one of the Nationalities Rooms in the Cathedral of Learning.  After many years of effort, the Swiss Room was completed and dedicated in April 2012.

Today, the Swiss-American Society continues to support the Swiss Nationality Room Committee and, in particular, its scholarship program that supports a University of Pittsburgh student in studying abroad in Switzerland. The Swiss-American Society also is affiliated with the Swiss Singers, a choral group that traces its history in Pittsburgh back to 1974. And every year, members of the Swiss-American Society gather to celebrate 1. August, the Swiss National Day, and for a Christmas luncheon to celebrate St. Nicklaus Day.
